Home / About Bob Gibbs

Over thirty years ago, Bob Gibbs began his version of the American dream. After graduating from The Ohio State University Agricultural Technical Institute in 1974, Bob founded Hidden Hollow Farms, a livestock production farm located in Holmes County. As the owner/operator of Hidden Hollow, Bob began to take an active role in promoting agriculture throughout Ohio, leading him to serve as President of the Ohio Farm Bureau Federation for two terms starting in 1999. Since 1985 Bob has served on the Board of Trustees of the Ohio Farm Bureau, making him one of the more well-known and informed advocates of agriculture in Ohio.

As a small businessman and farmer for over three decades, Bob took his knowledge and advocacy of Ohio agriculture to the next level. Bob filed as a candidate for the Ohio House of Representatives in 2002 where he defeated a primary challenger with nearly 70% of the vote and went on to claim victory in the General Election with over 62% of the vote. As proof that Bob Gibbs was serving his district well, his constituents reelected him twice before voting to send him to the Ohio State Senate in 2008.

During his time in the Ohio Legislature, Bob has continued his strong advocacy for both agriculture and small business. Bob currently serves as the Chairman of the Senate Ways and Means Committee and is Vice-Chairman of the Senate Agriculture Committee. Other key Committee assignments for Bob include the Highways and Transportation Committee, the Education Committee, as well as the Environment and Natural resources Committee.

Bob’s legislative career has given him the chance to work on many important pieces of legislation including his most recent vote to encourage Congress to vote against the dangerous National Energy Tax (Cap-and-Trade). Bob also helped to protect and enhance property owners’ rights by reforming Ohio’s eminent domain law with HB 5. Bob’s legislative priorities have always been to reduce the tax burden on Ohio’s businesses and he did so by help co-drafting the largest income tax reduction in the state’s history and successfully overhauling the way businesses have to process sales taxes.

Among other awards for his legislative service to Ohio, Bob was chosen as a “Guardian of Small Business” by the National Federation of Independent Businesses, Legislator of the Year by the Ohio Restaurant Association, a three time recipient of the Watchdog of the Treasury award from United Conservatives of Ohio, and received the prestigious Pork All-American award from the National Pork Producers Council. Bob Gibbs is proud to have previously received an A grade by then NRA and as a life-member, is strongly in the corner of fellow sportsmen and gun owners. Bob’s dedication to public service is only possible because of the support he has at home with his wife of 33 years, Jody. Bob and Jody also have three grown children, Adam, Amy, and Andrew.
